Since 1931, the New York Times has tracked and publicized the bestselling fiction and non-fiction books in the United States. As of July 2018, only four fiction books published in 2018 have held the top position for two or more weeks in a row.
1. The Woman in the Window, A. J. Finn’s popular dark thriller, outsold all other fiction books in the country during the last two weeks of January.
2. The Great Alone, written by National Readers’ Choice Award recipient Kristin Hannah, spent four weeks atop the list between the end of February and mid-March. The book is a coming-of-age tale based in Alaska.
3 and 4. Two collaborations with author James Patterson sit on the year's bestseller list. The 17th Suspect, a novel created with longtime literary partner Maxine Paetro, was the top seller for two weeks in May, while The President Is Missing, a political page-turner written in conjunction with former president Bill Clinton, has been the top-selling book since its release in late June.
